Solstice Weekend – 5 Haiku

This solstice weekend has seen a myriad of weather fronts. From glorious sunshine to the four winds howling and galloping breakers, followed by relentless rain sweeping in from the Atlantic and back again to sunshine. Here are five haiku it inspired.

blustery morning

the four winds howl around house

hear the eaves crack, squeak

the four winds howl, howl

kicking up swirling sandstorm

three heavy raindrops

on summer solstice

sweeping rain falls with vengeance

Dylan’s rowdy ways

wild west wind charging

quick heavy downpour ensues

galloping breakers

the mighty sea roars

unleashing angry breakers

pounding pier wall

Animals … 5 Haiku

evening rainfall

brushes flowers from shrubs and trees

birds return to nests

purple flowers bloom

amidst thistles and brambles

Alsatian cocks leg

as I walk the lane

brown butterfly casts shadow

the sun travels west

crusty bread in beak

magpie flies to hedgerow

dining all alone

fox prowls the garden

sniffs round, slinks into hedgerow

put cheese back in fridge

Meanwhile… at the beach-3 Haiku

afternoon zephyr

languorous waves trip ashore

teenagers sneak beer

lazul bay shimmers

south east wind whips round pier

rolling coffee cups

a light warming breeze

wraps around her bare shoulders

she shivers slightly

Lest They Forget . . . Haibun

Last Wednesday I had a meeting at a large company. Pulling in, it was difficult to find a parking space. After a couple of laps, one appeared. Preparing to get out, I noticed a monument opposite, with people sitting on a bench. When the meeting was over, went and had a look at the monument.
